These are lyrics from a Dave East song I really like – because it’s true.

Have you ever gotten to the point where you just sit there and ask yourself, why is nothing working?
It’s a dreadful feeling. But, there’s always a silver lining. Every time I’ve found myself in this position I’ve searched for something to lean on, a song lyric, a scripture, a saying, a gift from a close one.
As unpredictable as life can be, you can be just as unpredictable and turn things around. I remember during university walking up the stairs of the Biological Sciences block, wondering why I had performed so badly in some of my second year exams.
I just couldn’t understand it. I couldn’t put into words how much focus I had put in. For example, I put off football, I avoided getting distracted by girls, I even put off going to certain university events… all because I knew I had to make the mark – and I missed it.
Although avoiding social activity may not have been the best thing to do, I don’t regret it. Why? that period of sacrifice built serious mental strength. Furthermore, if you can fail in such a fashion, and survive, then most would agree that you are on to something.
Learning such a lesson has meant that when faced with the chance of failure, I have taken the leap of faith willingly. I’m ready to fail, it shows how tough I am. And if it helps, I made the grade at the end of University, so just hang in there.
